ConsultationsAppointments for consultations are preferred but we do accept walk in clients as well. However, waiting time for walk in patients can be unpredictable. All emergency cases are triaged by our trained nurses immediately and life-threatening emergencies are attended to immediately. We advise owners to call us prior to coming in especially in an emergency, this allows us to be better prepared to provide the best service possible.
In-House LaboratoryAt The Animal Doctors, we have a complete in-house laboratory, equipped to perform simple and complex tests. Including blood biochemistry, full blood counts, electrolyte measurements, hormone levels (cortisol and thyroid), rapid tests kits (parvovirus, FIV and FeLV, Distemper, Heartworm, feline coronavirus), blood smears, faecal examinations, microscopy and blood typing. Urinalysis and measurement of urine protein allow for early diagnosis of renal diseases. Most blood test results are available within half hour, which facilitates prompt diagnosis especially in emergency situations. Organ failures are detected early and management regimes instituted. Monitoring organ function is also made easy with blood tests. Specialised blood tests and histopathology services are sent to external veterinary laboratories.
Diagnostic ImagingOur high output generator xray machine allows us to take high quality images for quick diagnosis of many medical and surgical conditions in the small animal. We are able to take images of diagnostic quality for many different sizes of animals, ranging from hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, turtles, dogs and cats.
Our portable ultrasound machine also allows us to investigate conditions of the thorax and abdomen without invasive procedures. Both combine to allow us to reach a quick diagnosis.
Hospital facilitiesOur hospital cages are kept separate from animals with infectious diseases. All animals on an intravenous drip are maintained with continuous infusion pumps. Our nurses also ensure that animals in hospital are kept dry, clean and comfortable throughout their stay. Nasal oxygen and feeding tubes are also available for our critical care patients. We provide a 24 hour nursing facility to ensure our patients receive a high standard of care.
Isolation wardsDedicated isolation rooms and cages for animals with infectious diseases and are in need of quarantine. They are separated from other in hospital patients.
Surgery suiteOur surgery suite is used mainly for surgeries requiring a clean, sterile environment. Surgical equipment is sterilised using a high pressure steam autoclave. All animals under general anesthesia are monitored continuously using state of the art monitoring equipment. Constant measurements of heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation are recorded. If addition, continuous ECG and temperature monitoring is used if needed. We perform both soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.
General AnaesthesiaGeneral anaesthesia is required for all surgery and dental procedures. It is also used to assist certain diagnostic procedures like obtaining radiographs or contrast studies. The risk to general anaesthesia is reduced by careful patient selection, ensuring that major organs are functioning, careful drug selection and constant monitoring of all patient parameters. For certain complicated cases and compromised animals, the services of anaesthesia consultants are available via the Veterinary Anaesthesia and Pain Management Consultants (VAPMC). If you wish for a Board Certified Veterinary Specialist Anaesthetist to perform the General Anaesthesia, this is available. Prior arrangements must be made and additional charges will apply. Do not hesitate to ask for this service at The Animal Doctors.

Pain Clinic
Chronic painful conditions should not be underestimated in our patients. Many animals will adapt to chronic painful conditions without showing obvious signs. Conditions like arthritis in dogs, cats and rabbits are often overlooked as being part of the normal 'aging' process. The 'Pain Clinic' at The Animal Doctors addresses these issues and aim to assist these patients in the best way possible. Employing a combination of therapeutics and acupuncture, the pain clinic is run by a consultant from the Veterinary Anaesthesia and Pain Management Consultants (VAPMC). Appointments to be made in advance.
